Lost my Foobar2000

And was forced to use the ugly Windows media player 11. Well, it might not be that ugly after all. But the navigating is seroiusly bad. And the GUI is not configurable at all. So it was pure agony thats for sure. But my Foobar is back. More sweet and smooth than ever. iTunes and Wma11 can burn. Foobar2000 for ever. And yes its not much out of the box. It's ugly as no other earthly thing. But therein lies the userfriendly bits and pieces. Customize.org have some descent examples. And some of the oldtimers at Hydrogen Audio really know theire way around coding. The Fooblog also seems to have show some interesting sides of GUI changes.

Once again my its addictive to play music on my pc. The quest for getting rid of my cd's continues......

Wrap me with an ice pick and get me on down to you

Like Le Tigre on speed the re-mastered re-release of THEDEATHSET's EP: TO, kicks of with Paranoia which is the titlecut. And then the moods are set. All seven cuts are all top-shelf. Turn up the volume and break off the volumenob. The quirky electro-indie-punk will get to you for sure. To little time now. But check out the band. Beatbots have a nicer longer review saying:

Baltimore’s newly adopted Australian spazz-punk duo hit the ground running with To, a freshly remastered EP that showcases the year-old band’s frenetic, exuberant D.I.Y. aesthetic in 20-some breathless, high-energy, eardrum-throttling minutes.

The Death Set’s unique, infectiously catchy sound is heavily reliant on drum machines, laptops, intelligently exploited samples from television and hip-hop, and simple guitar riffs and keyboard parts that carom off of each other like pinballs. But the band’s real strength stems from their layered vocal stylings— Beau Velasco’s throaty wail supports and augments Johnny Siera’s Buzzcockian shrieks, creating a completely new voice that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Every so often, the whole operation collapses into a gut-wrenching, wordless wail that seems set to become the duo’s trademark.

Unlike many punk outfits, The Death Set infuses their lyrics with playfulness and positivity. Once you figure out what they’re saying through their jury-rigged microphones (created by gutting old telephones and antique radio mikes), it’s hard not to sing along with lines like “if I felt cynicism I’d wrap it in a blanket of discontentment—fuck that!”(“Negative Thinking”) or “it’s a top-secret mission and our enemies are wishin’ that they had a bigger gun” (“Around The World”)

For those who managed to get a hold of To in its earlier, non-RabbitFoot incarnation, this EP includes a brand-spanking-new track, “Boys/Girls.” Stomping along on a killer swampy bassline, this paean to the perils of being an effeminate rock boy finds Siera squealing “it’s easier to get boys than girls, ‘cause faggy boys don’t get them wet!” and features the catchy refrain “How fru-stra-ting!”

Of course, it’s impossible to capture the raw, sweaty, destructive punk energy of The Death Set’s Copycat warehouse shows on disc, but To is a great snapshot of a young band on the make—giddy, accomplished, and over far too soon. Thank goodness for repeat buttons.

The Mountains are comming

The Black Mountains slacking on the porch

While enjoying the morning with one of my new favorits The wolf parade, The indie-as-fuck Canadians (according to pitchfork) i for once remembered some recomandations from a friend. First of all a side project to the eminent Black Mountains; The Pink Mountaintops now released on the excellent JagJaguwar label. So yessss Ed, once again you nailed it. I gotta hand it to you, The Pink Mountaintops rule. And offcourse, looking for them i found another band; Jerk of with a bomb. Also right in my ear. I've always considered Black Mountain's debut a somewhat uneven album. But dont misunderstand me. There are some great songs there, and everyone interested in rock/blues/indie-rock/psych/ should check it out. With their roots in the likes of Led Zeppelin among others some songs really pound you in the chest (in a good way). While other tracks are more diamondsharp and beautiful low-fi.

The newer The Pink Mountaintops have released two full lenght albums which consists of a lighter, more low-fi, and humorouse style. I must say the lyrics sometimes bring me out of balanse for some odd reason (lol). Trippy country meets stoner rock according to allmusic.com. But as ever, rock solid musically, and with heaps and heaps of refrences to other bands. But we can see glimpses of psych here as well. Jerk of with a bomb was the first band of the three. Their latest album The Old noise have a tight and well-played low-fi kind of approach. Which seems more seriouse than any of the other two. And like always when digging for info on bands, to many new ones appear. Another sideproject of Matthew Camirand called Blood Meridian seems to go more laid back and sometimes more deep country, but still unmistakingly indie. Though keeping the roots of the other three bands mentioned above to some degree. Their sound is thiner, more fragile. But nevertheless We almost made it home is a very good album. The four saves the week for sure.....................well.............gotta run..............

Almost blew my head clean off

Going through my growing music library a few surprises suddenly appeared. Browsing the web at the same time as converting my aprox. 1000 cd's into a more handy format sometimes makes thing vanish. And without warning, and usually when most needed, they reappear. The surprises that is. And just now today i found the incredible Archie Bronson Outfit's Derdang Derdang (Domino, 2006) and Man Man's Six demon bag (Ace Fu, 2006). Those two managed to rip me away from my latest favorits Death from above 1979, Infadels (five East London upstarts determined to fuse Talking Heads, Steve Reich, The Stooges and The Rolling Stones' funkier moments into tunes capable of both rocking clubs and engaging brains according to: http://www.wallofsound.net/usual.php) and Panico's Subliminal kill. And it almost cost me my head, lol. Been in a wow-kind-of-state all day. 2006 seems to be yet another year packed with surprises. And we're still only in the midst of april. He, looks like converting my whole collection will take quite some time. But then again, who cares when one can listen while doing it? Ah, a great musical year it will be for sure.

My sources Release Notes:

Somewhere between New York, Philadelphia, and the Holy Mountain, MAN MAN fastens together shellac, perfume, feathers, dirt, and blood, knits together Screaming Jay Hawkins, Etta James, 80s pop, Iggy Pop, Soda Popinski, Mexican funeral marches, religious cults, bad luck, and two-headed wolves to wrangle out something entirely else. With themes ranging from loss to love to mayhem and back, SIX DEMON BAG's narrative structure once again straddles the blurry line between order and chaos, the outsider elements from their debut THE MAN IN A BLUE TURBAN WITH A FACE sharpened into alternate universe pop hits; an album just as comfortably suited to the workplace desktop as to the Lord of the Flies campfire, post Piggy. Gravel-throated Ringmaster Honus Honus has assembed a motley crew of likeminded shamans to help perform Man Man's many song exorcisms;
sweaty, sexy swamp boogies rest easily alongside no-wavey guitars, melancholy funeral dirges, french new wave soundscapes, and exiled river-bed gypsy jams. At the core of the everything is a pop heart, albeit a wounded one, but nonetheless a heart that beats strong and confident and will not be satisfied until you are a full-on converted follower.

SIX DEMON BAG introduces a few new band members into the fold. The new Man Man converts include Sergei Sogay, Les Mizzle, Christopher Powell (aka Pow Pow ) of Icy Demons and Need New Body fame, and multi-instrumentalist Alejandro "Cougar" Borg. Sergei has a very nice beard, gentle eyes and exudes a natural, refreshing, unthreatening machismo. Alejandro is an accomplished ping pong player, has a penchant for shoestring headbands, is a Scott Joplin enthusiast and descends from a family of gypsy fur trappers. Les Mizzle has a confessed weakness for Cajun gumbo, women with concealed weaponry, and is from France. Pow Pow has Mojo. According to Pitchfork, "if you aren't excited by the above descriptions alone, you have no soul. At the very least, take yourself and your friends to one of the shows. . . for an experience unlike any other. It starts with white suits and tribal rituals, and only gets better from there.
Seriously."

Man Man has played shows with Arcade Fire, Fiery Furnaces, Okkervil River, DFA 1979, Mary Timony, Out Hud, Cat Power, and Deerhoof, and received critical accolades in The Fader, Magnet, Spin, Alternative Press, Village Voice, Urb, Time Out NY, Pitchfork, and more.

Crawl back to the cave with Man Man. Sleep with the wolves. Ace Fu proudly releases Man Man's second LP, Six Demon Bag, on February 21, 2006.
